Hear from Roxbury native, Ashley!
“We need to love our neighbors, and we need to make sure that our neighbors have the same access, regardless of the path that their life may have started on and may have taken and what they may be able to afford, they still deserve healthy options.” - Ashley
Roxbury resident, Ashley, had a lot to say about our unique model and the impact we have on the community! Ashley grew up in Roxbury and Mattapan and plans to live in the area for the rest of her life. She understands that millions of people in our country struggle to access healthy, fresh, and affordable food and believes that Daily Table offers a great solution to this issue!
As Ashley points out, the issue of hunger extends beyond just accessing food—it’s also about accessing nutritious options. As she puts it, “It’s very important that we have whole foods available to us.” While fast food options like McDonald’s and Burger King might be cheap and convenient, they are not whole foods. In contrast, our stores provide fresh and nourishing food for the same, if not cheaper price and will leave you feeling full and satisfied.
Ashley also highlights the growing focus on overall wellness in our culture and how Daily Table has helped to promote healthy habits. We’re living “in a time where there's a focus on mental health, and physical health, and wellness and well-being and thinking more about our futures and less about what tastes good today, because it's packed with sugar and excessive things that we don't need,” she says. At Daily Table, we’re committed to making these healthier options available at a price everyone can afford. With inflation making groceries more expensive than ever, we strive to offer prices that are 30% lower than other local grocery stores. Plus, SNAP/EBT customers get 50% off on all fresh fruits and vegetables. With our model, everyone can access healthy and hearty foods.
Our roots in Roxbury run deep and we’re proud that our Nubian Square location has been serving the community for about six years! Ashley appreciates this, noting that instead of having another corner store filled with chips, cookies, and candy—or even another liquor store or dispensary— “it’s not,” she says, “because somebody cares enough about the people in Roxbury, and the people in Boston who are in neighboring communities to have the fresh, whole food options at reasonable prices.” And it’s true! Daily Table exists because we care about our neighbors and our community! Thanks for chatting with us Ashley!
