Daily Table Now Open in Salem, MA

On Saturday 9/9, we cut the ribbon to celebrate our new store in Salem!

Special thank you to our guests and speakers: Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, Salem Mayor Dominick Pangallo, Representative Manny Cruz, and President of The Point Neighborhood Association Lucy Corchado!

What a celebration it was! We were welcomed with open arms by the Salem community and look forward to seeing the impact that this new store will continue to provide.

SALEM, MA — Daily Table, a Boston-based nonprofit grocery store chain dedicated to providing nutritious, delicious, and truly affordable food to those communities most in need, is pleased to announce the opening of its fifth store, located in Salem, MA. Daily Table Salem will open for business on September 8, and will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 9th at 9am, followed by grand opening celebrations. The Salem location will be Daily Table’s fifth store, with four existing locations in Cambridge, Dorchester, Mattapan, and Roxbury.

“The need for affordable nutrition has never been greater. Daily Table is incredibly excited to have this opportunity to serve customers from Salem and surrounding areas with this new store, said Rob Twyman, Daily Table Chief Executive Officer. “As food inflation rises and federal assistance wanes, Daily Table is pleased to be able to support an additional community with great food at the lowest possible prices, best quality, and accessibility.“

This new, bright, colorful Daily Table store offers a selection of fresh produce, meat and dairy, and other grocery staples at prices that are significantly lower than other supermarkets. Daily Table also offers an ever-changing selection of convenient, delicious prepared foods, made fresh daily at our commissary kitchen in Dorchester. Daily Table’s prepared food options are not only nutritious, but also less expensive than fast-food alternatives.

"As the former mayor of Salem, I know how important organizations like Daily Table are for our communities," said Kim Driscoll, Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts. "Access to fresh, healthy and affordable food is one of the most critical needs facing our state, especially in light of the recent farm floods. This new location will help families in Salem get the nutrition they need at affordable and accessible costs."

Everything edible in Daily Table stores, including the prepared foods, are eligible to be used with benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps). SNAP customers also receive an additional 50% discount (up to a $5 discount daily) on already low fresh fruit and vegetable prices through the Double Up Food Bucks program. Daily Table will also be offering free delivery for SNAP customers who order online and live within a 2-mile radius in the coming weeks. Daily Table’s team of buyers work hard with dozens of suppliers, on behalf of its customers to find great deals, so that any savings can be passed on to the community!

The new Daily Table is located in the Point, a historic neighborhood in Salem. The store is part of a building with 51 mixed-income apartment homes of one, two and three bedroom layouts. The Point neighborhood is majority Hispanic/Latino with a median household income of $47,515. The new Daily Table will provide critically-needed access to healthy affordable food and groceries.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Daily Table to Salem and to the Point neighborhood in particular. As the rate of food insecurity in Massachusetts approaches its May 2020 pandemic peak, the positive impact of Daily Table’s nonprofit grocery model cannot be overstated,” said Dominick Pangallo, Mayor of Salem. “The expansion of Daily Table into Salem is an opportunity to improve food security in our community and combat inequities and barriers to accessing healthy food. We’re dedicated to providing all Salem residents with access to nutritious and affordable food, and our partnership with Daily Table is one more way that we’re delivering on that commitment.”

The new Salem store has four bright, fun, beautiful murals, all designed and painted by local mural artist Anna Dugan (known as artist Annadidathing). The inspiration behind the murals came directly from the Salem community, with the hope of connecting with the neighborhood and making all feel welcome.

“We are so excited to have The Daily Table in the Point Neighborhood!” said Lucy Corchado, President of The Point Neighborhood Association. “Daily Table Salem will offer the Point residents with another much needed grocery store option that not only is within walking distance, making it convenient for customers and workers alike, but also very affordable!”

Daily Table Salem is located at 135 Lafayette Street and is staffed with team members hired directly from the Salem community. Daily Table is proud to pay its team members a living wage. The store’s hours of operation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday - Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Everyone is welcome to shop, and the store accepts cash, credit, and SNAP. The store has 18  dedicated parking spots next to the building. Daily Table will be hosting Grand Opening events for the public on September 9th.
