IMPORTANT UPDATE: MATTAPAN STORE

Dear Valued Customers,

We are reaching out with an important update. After almost 2 years of serving the Mattapan community, we have made the difficult decision to close our store at the end of the day on January 5. 

As a nonprofit organization, our mission has always been to create healthier communities through affordable and nutritious food. The decision to close the store was made after careful consideration and reflects our commitment to ensuring that every dollar entrusted to us by our funders and supporters has maximum social impact. Unfortunately, the Mattapan location did not achieve the level of impact we had hoped for in addressing the high levels of food insecurity in the area. 

The Mattapan store serves very few customers, often up to 70% fewer people than other Daily Table locations. While this was not the outcome we hoped for when we opened the store, we are proud to have served this community, are grateful for your support, and are eager to apply what we have learned from this experience to help inform future opportunities.

Daily Table remains committed to our mission of providing healthy, affordable food. We encourage shoppers to visit us at any of our four other locations in Roxbury, Dorchester, Central Square, and Salem. We are pleased to say that almost all of our Mattapan store employees will be distributed among our other four store locations.

We hope to minimize disruptions this closure will cause for our Mattapan customers. Following this statement is a list of several resources for people who are facing food insecurity. ADDITIONAL FOOD RESOURCES IN MATTAPAN

  • Project Bread’s Food Source Hotline is 1-800-645-8333.

  • Daily Table Dorchester. Address: 450 Washington St, Boston, MA 02124

  • Daily Table Roxbury. Address: 2201 Washington St, Roxbury, MA 02119

  • Davey’s Super Market is 4.7 miles from the Mattapan Store and offers the Double Up Food Bucks program.  Address: 438 Dudley St, Roxbury, MA 02119.

  • Fanlyfe Free Food Co-Op, Voice of Gospel, offers pre-packaged high quality dry food, meat, dairy, produce, and more. One package allowed per household. If there’s an emergency for food, call 857-312-0663. First come, first served. Fridays at 8:30 am and Saturdays at 1:00 pm.  Address: 47 Edgewater Dr, Mattapan, MA 02126. Contact: nhomicil@yahoo.com

  • Ethos Community Kitchens offer dine-in, free prepared meals.  Registration is required. Contact: 617-477-6688 or ethosmeals@ethocare.org to register. Locations and service hours in Mattapan include:

    • BCYF - Mildred, 5 Mildred Ave, Weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

    • Sant Grandet Café, Church of the Holy Spirit, 525 River St., Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

  • Shirley’s Food Pantry offers basic packaged foods including eggs, breads, canned goods, and novelties.  All Boston residents eligible, and youth under 17 require their medicaid or assistance card.  Pick up is allowed once per month per family, but families can come more if needed. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.  Address: 213 River street Mattapan, MA 02129 (Turn around at Mary Moore Beatty Circle to come into the parking lot).  Contact: Jackie at 617-534-2032.
