New CEO Rob Twyman

With 30 years of experience in grocery retail, Twyman will lead Daily Table into its next phase of growth

BOSTON, MA — Daily Table, a Boston-based nonprofit grocery store chain, is pleased to announce the appointment of their new Chief Executive Officer, Rob Twyman. Twyman brings extensive grocery retail experience to Daily Table, a non-profit grocery store based in Boston, whose mission is to provide healthy and truly affordable food to low and moderate income communities. He worked at Whole Foods for nearly 30 years, working his way up from entry level and comes from his previous role as Executive Vice President of Operations.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rob to the team. He brings a wealth of experience in grocery retail to the position, he is passionate about our mission, and excited to help grow Daily Table’s impact both in Boston and around the country,” said Doug Rauch, Daily Table Founder and President

Daily Table currently has three locations in Dorchester’s Codman Square, Roxbury’s Nubian Square, and Cambridge’s Central Square, and stores under construction in Mattapan and Salem opening in early 2023. Each store offers a wide selection of fresh produce, meat and dairy, and other grocery staples at prices that are significantly lower than other local supermarkets. Daily Table also offers an ever-changing selection of healthy, delicious prepared foods that are cheaper than fast-food alternatives. Everything edible in their stores is eligible to be used with benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps).

“What I’m most excited about is our capacity to support community health and wellbeing through Daily Table’s mission,” said Rob Twyman, Daily Table Chief Executive Officer. "Good food has a unique ability to build community and to heal, which is what this business is all about."

Right now, roughly two-thirds of the nonprofit’s budget comes from store sales, while the rest comes from external funding that helps keep prices low while meeting operating expenses. Daily Table offers store employees, over 80 per cent of whom come from the communities Daily Table serves, one of the best starting wages in grocery retail, paid holidays, and medical leave. Anyone and everyone is welcome to shop at Daily Table, as our goal is to help build a stronger, healthier community. To learn more about Daily Table, visit www.dailytable.org.

Q&A with Rob Twyman:

Q: Why did you want to join Daily Table?

A: “When I read the job posting for this role at Daily Table, I knew it was what I wanted to be doing. What excited me at that moment was this fit between my work over the last 40 years and what Daily Table is doing in terms of mission–providing fresh, healthy, affordable food. We have largely broadened the availability of natural, organic, healthy foods, but what we haven’t yet accomplished is to improve and increase economic access of healthy foods to communities most in need. In this new role, I have the ability not only to serve those communities hit hardest by food insecurity, but to really make a fundamental dent in the issue of food security across the country.”

Q: Where do you see Daily Table going in the future?

A: “For every store that we open and for every customer served, we’re changing lives. And not only that, we’re changing their children’s lives. That ripple effect across generations is something that is not just here and now, but it's about the impact that Daily Table can make on the future of those families in this country. We're already expanding to Mattapan and Salem. Yet, there are so many other communities across this country that are hurting and that are in need of access to fresh, healthy foods that are truly affordable. For now, there is probably no limit to the opportunity for growth of the Daily Table model.”
