Meet Salem Mural Artist, Anna!
One of the first things people will notice at the new Daily Table in Salem is the artwork. The store has four bright, fun, beautiful murals, all designed and painted by mural artist Anna Dugan (known as artist Annadidathing). Check out our interview with her below!
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Anna Dugan, known as artist Annadidathing. I’m from Salem. I’ve been painting since I can remember, but I’ve been doing this full time sinceJuly of 2020, which is kind of crazy to think about. It’s always really important to me to do work within this community to give back, to reflect the same kindness and togetherness that Salem has always shown me.
What made you excited about doing this project?
I was really excited to work with Daily Table because I definitely believe in their ethos of providing affordable fresh food to everyone. I think everyone does deserve good food. It should be as simple of a concept as that but it’s crazy that that’s a revolutionary idea. I was really excited to work with them, bringing some color, fresh food, and community to downtown.
What was the concept behind your designs?
The inspiration behind the work was a lot to do with the Salem community, the feeling of community, and that feeling of togetherness infused with the idea of fresh food. The style that I went with was really inspired by printmaking and tarot cards. Obviously, I had to put a little bit of magic in there!
Just like the Salem community, I wanted the murals to be very colorful, friendly, full of happiness and joy, which I know this space will exude, as well.
Any last thoughts?
My husband and I have been residents of Salem for the past 6 or 7 years. Working with Daily Table in the city that I live in has been really special and it’s been a really special way for me to reflect this community back upon itself.
