Daily Table Grocery Store Addresses Food Insecurity in Mattapan with Gift Card Giveaway

Daily Table and the Highland Street Foundation provide $18,000 of gift cards to Mattapan families through community organizations

MATTAPAN, MA — On Tuesday January 30, Daily Table, the Boston-based nonprofit grocery store chain committed to providing nutritious food at affordable prices, distributed $18,000 worth of gift cards to 200 members of the Mattapan community. Thanks to generous support from the Highland Street Foundation, these gift cards will help residents start the new year with healthy food, making a positive impact on the lives of Mattapan families.

"Our goal is to create positive change by making nutritious food accessible to everyone. This special occasion in Mattapan is a testament to our ongoing commitment to provide support to communities in need. We are grateful for the collaboration with the Highland Street Foundation and our community partners in Mattapan," said Celia Grant, Director of Community Engagement and Programs at Daily Table.

The 200 gift cards were distributed through three community organizations: Immigrant Family Services Institute (IFSI), Mattapan Community Health Center (CHC), and Neighborhood Food Access Collaborative (NFAC). Groceries at Daily Table cost an average of 30% less than at other grocery stores.

“At the Highland Street Foundation, we believe in the power of collaboration and community impact. We are proud to support Daily Table in their mission to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most,” said Blake Jordan, Executive Director of the Highland Street Foundation.

All food in Daily Table stores is eligible to be used with benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps), including their freshly prepared meals. In addition to receiving already low prices, customers who pay with SNAP get half off fresh fruits and vegetables. This discount makes a $30 gift card go a long way.

“The generous gift by Daily Table will allow our staff to provide immediate support to individuals and families in need. The gift cards will go a long way to send the strongest message possible to the community we all serve. This gesture helps fulfill our mutual moral obligation to make a difference. Our sincere thanks to Daily Table and the Highland Street Foundation,” said Guale Valdez, Chief Executive Officer at the Mattapan Community Health Center.

“In a time when food prices are increasingly high and pay checks are not increasing to match inflation, communities have to make decisions about whether to buy food or pay a utility bill or rent. These cards will ease a burden and allow people to have a little less stress for a time,” said Ricardo Henry, Community Leader at the Neighborhood Food Action Collaborative (NFAC).
